In the air transport development program for the Philippines the Department of Transportation and Communications views the value of establishing regional international airports are an important move to decongest operations at the Manila International Airport. One of the regional airports ripe for regionalization is the Mactan Airport.
The project involves the integrated redevelopment of the Mactan Airport in Cebu to be able to handle the increase of passenger and cargo movements in the region. The project is also a part of the upgrading of the country's airports for international flights. This program aims to decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila by directing the passengers and goods directly to their final destination. The project involves the design of an integrated domestic and international passenger terminal and the upgrading of their utilities and runway facilities. Development is to be undertaken on a phased development basis as demand increases.
PROS A&E is responsible for the architectural and engineering design as well as construction management services for the passenger terminal building. Basic Technology and Management Corporation and ECT Consulting Engineers are responsible for the detailed engineering design services for the passenger terminal building respectively. Over-all design concepts for the horizontal and vertical development as well as over-all project construction management are the domains of Japan Airport Consultants.
