The project involves the identification of alternative and best use for twelve military camps in Metropolitan Manila. Except for three camps (Camp Aguinaldo, Camp Crame and Camp Panopio) nine have been recommended for disposition.
Congress in joint resolution has identified the disposition of seven Metro Manila camps as fund source for funding the (AFP) Department of National Defense - Armed Forces of the Philippines Relocation Plan. The same fund source shall also be utilized for initiating the Clark and Subic Conversion Sub-Programs.
Additionally, the modernization of the AFP and the provision of soft loans for enlisted personnel and officers of the military are to be funded too by the disposition of the Metro Manila Military Camps. This approved, the Bases Council avers, ensures the welfare of soldiers who will be moved out of the Camp. AFP units will not be relocated unless adequate accommodations and infrastructure are assured for them in the new sites.
The project therefore aims to optimize the locational advantage of the properties in order to monetize the assets and maximize returns from the real estate values of the camps.
