Mount Purro Reforestration and Nature Retreat is located at the west central part of the Marikina Watershed. It is in the provincial jurisdiction of Antipolo, Rizal. It sits on a 934.57-hectare forest and watershed reserve.
The proponent acquired a lease agreement for the area for 25 years commencing in 1994. The aim is to develop a model for sustainable forest development, productivity for the dependent community of Calawis, and environment protection.
The approach in reforesting the area is to consider the whole watershed as a forest ecosystem, and then, improve the dipterocarp residual forest and introduce forest areas along a natural succession scheme. Under the lease agreement, 500 trees per hectare shall be planted. A strategy to look at reforestation as a source of sustainable livelihood without systematic cutting of trees include multi-cropping and processing of forest cuttings and forest products. This requires land allocation schemes of forest lands, orchard plantations, gardens and eco-tourism accommodations as well as communal facilities and resorts.
The eco-tourism and nature retreat provides a unique lifestyle intended for a busy nature-lover by offering a facility that maintains contact with day-to-day business affairs through up-to-date communications systems. Amenities include a reception center and jump-off area, service stations and information center, utility banks and eco-tourism accommodations.
