The study covers the initial development of the Port of
Pasacao up to 1990. The elements of the project consist of reclamation,
construction of pier fender system, moving fixtures, service roads and
parking space, handling and operations areas as well as open storage. Since
the study is an update of a previously prepared master plan of the Bicol
River Basin Development Project, the objectives covers only the following:
- Identify potentials of the port and its geographic influence area
- Establish inter-port relations
- Forecast cargo traffic
- Conduct capacity analysis
- Site study for site planning
The variables that are greatly influencing the development
scenario for the Port of Pasacao are:
- Production variables that are related to the port's cargo traffic;
- Employment variables that are related to productivity and port operations;
- Hierarchy of complementing cargo movement systems.
Moreover, the economic analysis defines the potentials of the port in relation to its immediate and peripheral areas of influence. The approach concentrates in identifying and classifying the broad context of development upon which Pasacao Port must contribute to.
Emergent users of Pasacao Port are ships loaded with general cargo and specialized vessels that are in fishing and coconut oils. Motorized fishing bancas usually dock along the shoreline.
