The pre-feasibility study for the development of the Gunong Penrissen in Sarawak, Malaysia into a highland resort entails the assessment of physical, economic and environmental factors of the site. Estimated to comprise 2,300 hectares of land, Gunong Penrissen rises 460 meters above sea level.

Fundamental to the planning approach is the conservation of as much of the diverse natural habitat as possible. The objective is to provide specialized facilities while at the same time catering to traditional activities that can attract a wider spectrum of clientele. A resort that combines rest, recreation, romance and recuperation is expected to answer the desires of a number of local residents as well as foreign tourists.

The major design components are divided into the resort facility, the agricultural area and the services area. Elements of the plan include the resort facility composed of a village center, hotel site, residences and golf course. The agricultural area consists of a reservoir/lake, service area, vegetable farm and orchard expansion area. The forested areas and the circulation network complete the plan.
