The San Bartolome de Novaliches Parish Church is in its finishing stages as it stands in 2002. The parish was canonically established in 19June1986. The church was then a small village chapel that accommodated 200 people. At that time it could not meet the requirements of a dynamic parish. In 1989 the parish site was relocated to a one-hectare lot at the corner of Quirino Highway and P. dela Cruz Street. On 3 February 1990 Archbishop Cardinal Sin laid the cornerstone of the new building. Construction started in 1991.
The church, soon to be one of the biggest Catholic churches in Asia, can accommodate 3,000 persons in one function. It has a mausoleum lodged at its basement. The site will have a complex consisting of a parochial school and a formation house.
The underground mausoleum called the Mausoleum of Devine Mercy contains 7,000 niches that are made available to the public at reasonable terms. The funds generated out of the niches will be used to complete the construction of the church. Aside from the cineraria and ossuaries, the facility has ten air-conditioned viewing chapels, a crematorium, ample parking spaces and 24-hour security service.
Recently, His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin passed a decree dividing the Vicariate of Our Lady of Mercy and creating the new Vicariate of San Bartolome de Novaliches of the Ecclesiastical District of Quezon City-North, which is composed of the parishes of San Bartolome, San Isidro Labrador, Holy Family, Our Father, Resurrection of Our Lord and Banal na Sacramento. San Bartolome Parish Church takes lead in this new organization.
