The S.P. Lopez Ecological Sanctuary, Conference and Study Center is a proposed memorial to Salvador Ponce Lopez. The man is a writer, a social critic, a philosopher, a journalist, a diplomat, a soldier and a historical figure. He was the University of the Philippines president during the momentous first quarter storm in the 1970's.
The project's theme of relaxation, inspiration and conservation, is matched by the opportunities Tagaytay City offers.
Major land uses, for the development include educational, institutional, agro-forest, eco-tourism, residential, recreational zones. Highlights of the project include the Apung-ina Shrine, a Liliputian Village for Asian Culture and areas that showcase the memory of S. P. Lopez.
Four ideals of Lopez: Accessibility, Democratization, Relevance and Autonomy are the guiding expressions for the project.
Accesses to the site are developed in a way that its visitors and residents feel the intimate embrace of the place. The large areas allotted for green areas and the diverse meditation facilities create a more democratic setting. Its cultural relevance is depicted in its religious shrine, worship chapels, memorabilia, and miniature cultural villages. The accommodation facilities, are planned to enhance the memorial value of the area. The facilities complement each other and are made autonomous from the bustle of the city's urbanscape.
