Funded by the World Bank the project encompasses 1,200
hectares of rolling land. The property fronts the coastline of the Straits
of Iloilo and extends towards the foothills of Mount Napulac.
In keeping with the objective of making the University of the Philippines,
Visayas a symbol of higher learning, the development of the campus is
conceptualized to showcase how the heritage of the past is linked to the
context of the present. In this manner the physical setting can be utilized
as a solid foundation for the progress of the institution toward the
potentials of the future.
The ambience of the built environment in the West Visayas Region is known for its richness in the variety of the architecture, the closeness in their relationship to nature, the humaneness in scale and socio-cultural setting they generate. It is therefore expected that the campus shall be imbued with the very same characteristic ambience. In this way, it can very well fulfill its function that is demonstrative of the continuing heritage of the region. U.P. in Visayas becomes a setting that reflects coherence and relevance to the people it aims to serve.
